One of the events that I look forward to since the beginning of the year is the Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF). It is not just an event; it is a happy journey into the world of written word -and the best part is that I live very close by to the exhibition center, so I don’t need to worry about the traffic neither about finding a parking spot!
And this year, SIBF celebrated the 35th anniversary. And it broke all the previous attendance records by attracting 2.31 million visitors. The event hosted many activities that all the visitors enjoyed, and they varied from Kids Activities program, Cultural Activities, Cookery Corner and Social Media Café.
Many cultural personalities, media celebrities and famous authors participated at SIBF 2016, including Algerian poet and novelist Ahlam Mosteghanemi, Saudi poet Dr. Mohammed Al Muqrin, Palestinian poet Ibrahim Nasrallah, International relations expert Dr. Parag Khanna, Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty and Indian film actor and producer Mammootty, Cassandra Clare, writer of The Mortal Instruments fantasy novels and Eric Van Lustbader, New York Times bestselling author who has written 10 of The Bourne Series novels.
SIBF is such an amazing parade that I wish it would be running throughout the year. But I guess, being it hosted once a year is what makes it special and unique. And, keeps us waiting eagerly for it. Can’t wait for the next year’s to see what surprises it will hold for us.
